Controversial ad uses breast-feeding to sell cookies
Thu Apr 19, 2012
I think it's a stupid ad, because that baby is too young to be eating a cookie, but I don't see anything sexualized about this image. Idealized, yes. Even the baby's skin has been airbrushed.

Feeling SAD? How to cope when the sun goes away
Thu Jan 27, 2011
I'm surprised there's no mention of vitamin D supplements to help with SAD. It's not a perfect treatment, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper and more accessible than a light box.

And I know some kids whose parents take the opposite stance from what Mayim (that's her name, btw) and their kids are also unpleasant. Parenting is not one-size-fits-all. For most kids, gentle parenting really does work best, and especially in the infant and toddler years.

Will you come hang out with me? :) Love this blog. I appreciate the general tone you've taken here. It's not about judgment, labels, or one-upping one another -- it's all about raising our children to be happy and healthy in the best way we can.
Is it your clothes that are making you look fat?
Fri Jan 7, 2011
I think the point of this though is that no matter what your size, your clothes can make you look better or worse. You can be 20 lbs underweight and look fat if you're wearing a bulky sweatshirt and a peasant skirt (which is why anorexics wear clothes like that to hide their anorexia).
Do you believe there's a link between vaccines and autism?
Wed Jan 5, 2011
I don't think it really matters. Injecting chemicals into my newborn doesn't seem like a good idea, autism or no. Delayed vax's for us.
Many breast-fed babies lack vitamin D
Sun Nov 7, 2010
Anecdotes are not useful in determining widespread health benefits. I was bottle-fed and I was sickly too, and I may have benefited from being breastfed -- but we'll never know, just as we'll never know whether your friend's children would have been more sickly if they hadn't been breastfed.

Yeah -- breastmilk is not a health hazard to anybody. If you think it's gross or whatever, use a different sink or rinse it out, but there aren't any germs in it that will make you sick.

Hmmm... somehow I don't think that millions of years of evolution would make a mistake that could only be corrected by man-made chemical supplements. Just a crazy thought, I know. Get some sunshine. It's not hard.
